Week of 10/25/10

Well, I hope everyone is having a good October, it's almost gone again!

Here are the requests I have collected!Have a safe and fun Halloween weekend! We are taking the kids Trick-or-Treating for the first time! By the way, whenever I edit these posts after submitting them, the spacing goes haywire!!!

I'm going to start with a prayer, and I'm leaving the rest up to you!

Dear Father in Heaven, We pray that Your will would be done. Help us to spend our time, money, and energy on things You want us to. We pray that Your hand would be on all these requests. Protect us this week, and help us to be frequently reminded of these people who have asked for our help. In Jesus Name, Amen.

Request #1: Linda- Please remember a friend of mine whose mother just had a stroke and will no longer be able to be independent.  She lives a good distance from her daughter.  Many adjustments will need to be made.  My own mom continues to suffer slow losses due to her dementia.  It is so painful to talk with her and be constantly aware of these losses.  Thanks for your prayers. 

Request #2: Liz Curtis Higgs Off to Scotland, offline for a week! If you would kindly pray for safe travel and solid writing time, that would be a huge blessing. Hugs, dear FB friends, and see you in November!

Request #3: Margaret - My brother John passed away Monday morning Oct 18th.  He had been in the hospital for some time and then in a nursing home. My Mother had been in the hospital from the 12th to the 18th. Ed told her before he took her home on Monday afternoon. Our greatest concern is for her.  She is very weak. Please pray for her.

Request #4: Bridget- Their home burned down on Sunday morning at about 12:30am. Looks like someone threw a lit cigarette in their backyard. She woke up when she saw the flickering lights outside her window. They got out of the house before the smoke alarms went off. The car was ruined as well. They have 2 little girls ages 2 and 5. He is a dentist, and she is a dental hygienist. They are currently staying in a bed and breakfast, but need our prayers and support. They are not members at a local church currently, although the older daughter is in Kindergarten at a Catholic school (very close to the hotel luckily.) 

Praises: 1) EVERYONE got out quickly and NO ONE was hurt! 2) 

A neighbor gave them a double stroller to push the girls in. 3) They had insurance, but anyone who has been through a fire knows, it takes a long time to get that money. 4) Insurance did pay a restoration company to come in and get to work. 5) The school is being flooded with phone calls of people trying to help!!! 6) The restoration people are telling them that some items that were in the fire will be salvageable.

Request #5: Stacey- Her son Drew has pneumonia and strep throat. 

Request #6: Jessica- had a peanut scare already today. Epipen and Benadryl done. And, looks like I will make it another day!

Request #7: Marcia - She was suddenly let go at work. :-( Let's pray that God would open a door where one has been closed. 

Request #8: Derema- One of our iPrayer ladies and her family are on a road trip this week to South Carolina! They have their 1 1/2 year old with them. Yesterday was quite an interesting trip with the storms! Let's pray that even though she has to attend a work training while she's there, that they would get some serious fun and family time, and for travelling mercies!

Request #9:  Shannon- Chris and I are friends with the Stone family who were planning on bringing home their adopted daughter from the hospital yesterday (she was born Friday).  However, the birth mother kept the baby for the weekend, and decided on keeping her.  The baby and birthmother are both healthy, so there is no cause for concern there.  However, the Stone family has an incredibly intelligent 4 year old son, Benjamin, who was eagerly awaiting his new baby sister.  He has been asking the simple question "Why?" right now, but they foresee many more questions coming in the future.  They are hoping that he processes this in as healthy a way as possible. Could you please lift up the Stone family during this emotional time for them?  They are going through the process of grieving, while at the same time, hoping for a miracle that the birthmother will remember all the reasons she made an adoption plan in the first place and perhaps change her mind.

Hey Ladies!

I missed last week because I was in California in my Aunt's wedding! It was outside in the Temescal Canyon Gateway Park! 

I have several requests to share! Requests are in Blue, Praises are in Pink, and Updates will be Orange. Keep an eye out this week for requests on Facebook, email, at work or at school!

Let's begin by saying a prayer together!

Request #1: Let's lift up Esther and Eivaen in their new life together! Praise: The wedding went great, all 4 little kids were very good in the wedding, the audience, and the reception! They were even good in the airplane!

Request #2:  Margaret- Perry and I are leaving for a family reunion in Florida on Friday morning very early. Please pray for traveling mercies for us.

Request #3: Chris- I don't know if anyone saw this, but this young man was paralyzed from the neck down in a game against Army this weekend. I'm sure he could use some prayers and words of encouragement if you have a few minutes to spare. Rutgers University Scarlet Knights. http://scarletknights.com/football/eric/getwell.asp

Request #4: LaVonda- is sick (the antibiotics are not helping) and tired (duh! no sleep) which = cranky. 

Request #5: Chad- Elizabeth gave birth to our baby boy, Silas Miller, this morning at 4:38am. He is 7lbs 4oz and looks like the boy version of Georgia. We will be at Baptist East until Tuesday! Can't wait for everyone to meet him!

Request #6: Denise- is praying for a friend and her family tonight. She lost her best friend, her husband!! Please pray with me!! Thanks.

Request #7: Suzanne- Stomach flu all day. Praying babies don't get it!!! Thursday at 8:16pm 

Request #8: Wendy ‎- please keep my daughters in your thoughts and prayers. Their grandfather passed away today. He will be missed, but we take comfort knowing he is free of pain and celebrating in heaven...

Request #9: 

 

Kara- One of the strongest, most inspiring women in my life passed away this week and she will be missed by tons of people. I miss my grandmother and the great friend that she was to me. Love you Lala!

Praise: Thank God for All 33 Miners in Chile being rescued!

Welcome Ladies! (And any guys who are sneaking in...)

Let's start with a prayer together this week, then I'll leave the rest up to you guys!

Lord, we pray that Your Holy Spirit would guide us as we spend a few minutes lifting up these requests. These people who have come to us asking for help, asking for support, seeking your will. Be with us each individually as we spend time in prayer, for a couple of minutes or even hours, for a solid block of time, or in little moments alone with You. Help us to do Your will in everything, In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

We have lots of requests, so I'll just jump right in! But, before I do, I wanted to share a link with you for an incredible book my friend Amanda taught us about! It's called Praying in Color. So, if you have time, check it out! She even has a blog now!

 

Ok, here we go!

Remember, if you have any requests, just send me an email! I try not to use last names, and whenever possible, I cut and paste directly from the person making the request. Feel free to give as much, or as little detail as you want! Be on the lookout for people around you, and who you are in contact with who need prayer! Requests are in Blue and Praises are in Pink! I also send these all out in a weekly email to anyone who is interested!!!!

Request #1: Margaret - I would ask for prayers for our Fall Festival: 1) for the success of this event, and that new families with children would be led to the church through it. 2)Pray for the Lord's protection from harm for all who gather at this event. May the Lord be glorified during this event. 3) Also, that communications to coordinate help in the kitchen would be successful since there is not a lot of time to get the word out. 4) PRAY FOR HELPERS to come forward! As always, the harvest is great,but the workers are few.

Request #2: Jeanette -We got the results for Lionel. It's a tumor (hearing Arnold Sw. in my head) and cancerous. He will have surgery to remove it, don't know when at the moment. They are going to give an estimate on how much that will cost.

Request #3: MJ - We are leaving and heading to CA for my Aunt's wedding on Friday. So....please pray for travelling safety and issues such as security and luggage getting safely where it needs to, also for the bride and groom to be calm and enjoy themselves, that the 3 kids under 6 who are in the wedding will behave, Thomas is very afraid to fly because his ears popped and hurt last time, Sarah who is very pregnant and travelling with 2 little ones, etc. :-)

Request #4: Britney - On Oct.13 she is taking a BIG test for college. If she does really well, she has a good chance to get a full paid scholarship! She is really really nervous about it! She's been taking extra training, lots of extra studying, and meanwhile trying to lead a somewhat reasonable senior year! She plays volleyball (very seriously) and is having conflicts between wanting to be with the team for practices and the need to study. The pressure is beginning to really get to her now.

Request #5: MJ -My father-in-law had a very serious episode last Thursday that had him in the hospital overnight. It was originally being called a minor stroke, but they seem to have backed off of that diagnosis now. He woke up very confused and disoriented. He had a difficult time with movement and speech was effected. They ran lots and lots of tests (and lots and lots), one of which was an MRI that caused him an anxiety attack and they had to stop the test in the middle. It was very scary. Now, a week later, he is still very tired and unsteady, but the confusion seems to have all passed. The doctor today gave him another B12 shot and said they are going to do another bunch of tests, actually repeating some they've already done. (Let's really pray they don't repeat the MRI!!!) Please keep him in your prayers and all of the family as well.

Request #6: Let's remember the family who lost their toddler,

, when the father backed his car into her. This tragedy is soooo sad. Steven Curtis Chapman performed tonight in their honor and to support them. I pray the family and friends, and her father especially, will be able to forgive, heal, and survive this crisis.

Request #7: Teresa - Her friend, who she does Kung Fu with, has torn her hamstring away from the bone! They've told her she can either have a surgery to reattach it, or just wait! Not sure what she's going to do!

Praise: Jennifer- found out she is having a boy! :-) He is still healthy and doing great! She is too! I promised we would still pray for both of their safety. They have one healthy 4 year old, and have lost several little ones at about 9 weeks into the pregnancy. This time, she is already more than 20 weeks!!! He is doing SUPER!!!!

Update: Dad went to the doctor and they said, good news, it's just muscle soreness! (Not whiplash or worse!) But, for future reference, they said it is really important that he came in and got checked out, in case something came up later!

Original Request: 

My Dad was in a car accident last Thursday. He had to stop suddenly on the expressway, because the car in front slammed on their brakes. The car behind him slammed into him! His car appears to be ok, and the car behind (driven by a 19 yr old man) was totaled. He has been having symptoms of whiplash, and was very shaken up. They said they thought the car that hit him was going about 50 miles per hour.

Week of 9/27/10

Hi Guys! Long Week Huh?

Let's start with a prayer and jump right in! Feel free to email me any requests you see out there! Be watchful on the news, facebook, email, listening to friends and co-workers. You don't have to give all the details or even their name if you don't want! God knows the situation! If more hands gets the work done faster, think what more hands folded in prayer can do!

Dear Father in Heaven, Lord we just pray that you will be with us as we read over these requests. Let us take a couple of minutes out of our super busy days to direct our hearts and minds to You. We pray that Your will would be done at all times. And in All places. It is soooo hard for us Lord to be told, "No." We just aren't used to it in these times. But if it's Your Will to say "No," then let us hear it thankfully, and with humility.Thank You soooo much, as well Lord, for allowing us to hear, "Yes" so very often from You. Draw us Near to You, Lord, and please, draw nearer to us. In Jesus Name, Amen.

Request #1 : Laura - was so sad to hear of the sudden death of an old school friend and new found Facebook friend, William, on Wednesday, from a car accident. He posted on my wall regularly and always had some wisdom to share. Please pray for Bill's family and loved ones.
Request #2 : Emily - Ok praying people, put in a few good words for my step-mother Carmen. Her cancer was a bit larger than they thought and she is going to need more reconstruction so lets hope it goes well!

Request #4: My Father-in-law is having a really bad time with his back. He has been to many doctors about this, and they've given him various medicines. But he needs more help.
Update & Request #5: We are sad to say that one of the requests we had last week, for a friend's seriously ill Grandmother, Rita, received the answer we were not hoping for. She passed away the next morning after our request went out. The family has all had to travel to Alabama and some are still working on getting there to pay their respects. But we have to remember, God is not our Genie. He has His own plan, His own Will, and His own Timing. He honors us by allowing us to take part in His plans by praying for His Will to be done. God is love. All the time. Sometimes He answers "No," sometimes, "Wait" or "Not Yet," and many times He blesses us with a "Yes." Let's thank Him for knowing what is best, even when we don't like the answer! I would ask that we pray for the family and friends as they try to learn how to live with a new "normal".

Request #6: Jessica - family member had a knee replacement and there have been complications.

Request #7: Jessica - So my son has his first sports injury!  I'm pretty sure it is just a sprained wrist, but not sure if I should have it x-rayed!

Request #8: One of the guy's I work with, Jesse and his wife Melissa have a New baby! They had a pretty rough delivery. Total of 30 hours from the time her water broke, through an attempted natural child-birth, through Pitocin & an epidural, and finally a C-section. Baby Lillian is doing well! She was 8 lbs 7 oz and 20" long. She had a slight fever and breathing issues earlier. Probably due to the C-Section. Both sets of their parents are out of town. Her Mom was flying in earlier today, and his parents had just gotten to Texas to visit their other son and his wife, who have a brand new baby too!

40 Ways to Pray for Your Children

One of the great privileges of parenthood is that we can ask God to work in the lives of our children. These 40 prayers can be offered as a 40-day cycle of prayer {patterned after Jesus' own 40-day spiritual retreat in Matthew 4} or simply used during the course of each day.

1.     For the knowledge of God

Dear God, the Psalmist declares, "Be still, and know that I am God" {Psalm 46:10}. In their busyness, may my children have quiet moments in which they think and reflect about God in their lives.

2.      For salvation

Loving God, the Apostle Paul reminds us that the Gospel "is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes" {Romans 1:16}. Help my children learn to trust in you early in their lives and remain faithfully committed to your ways throughout their lives.

3.     For myself as a parent

Gracious God, fill me with sensitivity and insight that I may understand the best ways to guide my children so they may grow in your wisdom and love.

4.     For parenting patience

Loving God, although family life is often hectic and busy, help me to listen with patience to the worries, troubles, and problems my children may have.

5.     For kindness of speech

Gracious God, so many children have been deeply wounded because they have been the brunt of criticism, teasing, and taunting. May my children exhibit kindness in their speech. Let the words of Psalm 19:14 be true for my children: "May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight."

6.     To recognize their mistakes

Dear God, may my children recognize when they are wrong and take responsibility where they are at fault. Give them a deep and sincere desire to put things right as quickly as possible.

7.     For love

Gracious God, let my children follow the command of Jesus to "love one another" {John 13:34}. Let them reach out with love to all within their sphere of influence.

8. For spiritual stability

Oh God, in times of moral uncertainty and temptation, empower my children to exhibit spiritual stability. May the words of Joshua have a firm grip in their hearts: "You are to hold fast to the Lord your God" {Joshua 23:8}.

9.  To help bear burdens

Loving God, let it be that my children are the ones who quickly reach out, helping to lift the burdens of others. Through my example, may my children understand the importance of fulfilling the call of Scripture to "carry each other's burdens" {Gal. 6:2}.

10.            To be instruments of peace

Gracious God, may my children guide their thoughts, words, and actions by the prayer of St. Francis of Assisi: "Make me an instrument of your peace: where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; and where there is sadness, joy."

11.  To celebrate humanity

Dear God, this world is filled with beautiful people, all of whom are your children. May my own children be free of discriminatory and judgmental attitudes toward others. Let them appreciate and celebrate the fact that people are red and yellow, black and white, tall and short, fat and thin, rich and poor, young and old.

12.            For spiritual & emotional growth

Loving God, let my children be like Jesus who "grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men" {Luke 2:52}.

13.  To be salt & light

Gracious God, may my children learn how to cooperate rather than compete, to respect rather than revile, and to console rather than condemn. Even in their limited circles of influence, may they be "the salt of the earth" and the "light of the world" {Matt. 5:13-14}.

14.  For protection

Eternal God, as my children go out this day may your loving protection go ahead of them, be behind them, hover over them, and stand beside them. This day protect them from every danger, disease, and trauma.

15.            For faith in times of difficulty

Dear God, whenever my children face trial, trouble, or fear, let them naturally turn to you for guidance and strength. May my children know this powerful promise of scripture: "The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms" {Deut. 33:27}.

16.  To remember the marginalized

Dear God, create in my children hearts of love and compassion for those whom society overlooks. Let them understand the importance of this biblical command: "Remember those in prison as if you were their fellow prisoners, and those who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering" {Heb. 13:3}.

17.  For growth in grace

Loving God, day by day and in every way, let my children "grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ" {2 Peter 3:18}.

18.  For contentment

Loving God, let my children cultivate the same spiritual contentment as did the Apostle Paul, who said: "I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want" {Phil. 4:11-12}.

19.  To be unselfish

Gracious God, give my children more love, more self-denial, more willingness to sacrifice for others. Let them understand deeply that it is more blessed to give than to receive.

20.  For wisdom

Loving God, may your spirit be so present in the lives of my children that their thoughts are your thoughts and their ideas are your ideas.

21.  To offer confession & seek forgiveness

Gracious God, may there be in my children no propensity for denial of truth and reality. When they err and do wrong, may they offer you confession and seek your forgiveness. Let them take comfort in your word, which says: "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness" {1 John 1:9}.

22.  To be "clothed" in virtues

Dear God, may my children constantly and consistently be clothed "with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience" {Col. 3:12}.

23.  For humility in victory & dignity in defeat

Dear God, life is made up of valleys and peaks, wins and losses. There will be times when my children will make important gains and other times when they will feel the sting of losing. May they have humility in their victory and dignity in defeat.

24.  For appreciation of God's creation

Loving God, show my children how to love all animals, birds, creatures, and all green and growing things. Help them to cherish and protect your creation.

25.  For gratitude

Dear God, let gratitude, praise, and thanksgiving continuously flow from the lips of my children. May they "give thanks in all circumstances" {1 Thess. 5:18}.

26.  For the courage of convictions

Gracious God, convictions mean nothing unless there is the courage to stand up for them. May my children "be strong and courageous" {Joshua 1:6}, standing up for those treated unkindly and unjustly.

27.  For emotional & spiritual strength

Eternal God, whenever my children feel the pain of rejection by friends or feel they are the objects of ridicule, infuse them with emotional and spiritual strength. May they always remember that you are the strength of the weak, the refreshment of the weary, and the comforter of the heartbroken.

28.  To be joyful Christians

Loving God, bless my children with the spirit of joy. May they smile naturally, laugh easily, rejoice in your gifts large and small. Let the words of the Psalmist resound in their lives: "This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it" {Psalm 118:24}.

29.  To be free from materialism

Gracious God, even in their youth let my children be free from materialism. May they enjoy their benefits, privileges, and material possessions without the constant clamor for more and more and more. And, should they be blessed with wealth in their adult years, may they know the importance of sharing and using their abundance to bless others.

30.  For peace & justice

Eternal God, nurture in my children a love for the many people who live in poverty and misery. Arouse in their hearts a deep and abiding hunger for justice and peace.

31.  To be filled with hope

Loving God, no matter what may befall my children, may they be so filled with hope that it prevents any despair from taking hold. With the Apostle I pray that you, "the God of hope" {Romans 15:13}, will fill them with all joy and peace.

32.  For perseverance

Dear God, keep my children from becoming impatient and quitting prematurely. Develop within them endurance and perseverance so that when faced with major challenges and crises they do not easily give up. Let my children be "joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer" {Romans 12:12}.

33.  For a passionate love of God

Gracious God, cultivate in my children a passion to love and serve you. May my children have the same kind of passionate love for you as did this Psalm writer: "I will praise you, O Lord, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonders. I will be glad and rejoice in you" {Psalms 9:1-2}.

34.  For generosity of spirit

Loving God, instill in my children a desire to give of themselves. May they always be honorable in action, sincere in words, and gentle in their treatment of others.

35.  To be forgiving

Eternal God, fill my children with the spirit of forgiveness. Whenever they are hurt, may they naturally forgive and thereby free themselves from the burden of resentment. May they take seriously this word from the Apostle: "Forgive as the Lord forgave you" {Col. 3:13}.

36.  To have a teachable spirit

Gracious God, infuse in each of my children the awareness that the world is filled with teachers. May they see others as being sent by you into their lives to teach them to learn better patience, greater love, more compassion.

37.  For the wise use of their talents

Loving God, thank you for filling my children with numerous gifts, talents, and abilities. As they mature, let them exercise wisdom in using their gifts to help others.

38.  To be honest

Gracious God, let my children always exhibit honesty of conduct and honesty of speech. May there be nothing deceitful in what they say and do. Instill in them the awareness that life flows more smoothly when it is built around honesty.

39.  To practice hospitality

Eternal God, may my children be open and affirming of all others. May they be the ones who reach out, embracing those who are left out or left behind.

40.  To be faithful in prayer

Gracious and loving God, help my children to live lives punctuated by prayer. With the Apostle may they "pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests" {Eph. 6:18}. May they be persistent and powerful in their praying.
